Propane Heater

There is absolutely no way to predict the weather especially during the winter season so it is important to be prepared for any temperature changes most especially the temperature drops. Without a heater in your home you could experience discomfort from the low temperatures and possibly catch a cold. Having a propane heater around the house can be essential in keeping your rooms warm and any people in them.

What is a propane heater?

A propane heater is any heater that makes use of pressurized gas or liquefied petroleum gas to warm up non-insulated rooms. Rather than relying on electricity, these propane heaters are usually lit up using a lighter or match and make use of a portable tank for storing the gas. They are primarily used for heating up small areas and patios as most of them are portable. They are also stand-alone so no direct wiring to a source of gas is needed.

Their advantages and disadvantages

Since pressurized gas is the main source of heat, propane heaters can save you a lot of electricity which is crucial for the fall and winter seasons since you need constant heat. Many of these heaters are also portable with some having wheels so they are easier to transport. Liquefied petroleum gas is also very environmental friendly and helps reduce damage to the ozone layer significantly.

Using liquefied petroleum does mean that you need to take that extra step to fill them at gasoline stations and periodically check for gas leaks. But these minor disadvantages shouldn't discourage people from using these safe heaters.

The different brands, sizes and types

Most of the propane heater sizes are small, but some of them could be tall as well and could be mounted for a permanent position. Taller propane heaters usually have a shield called a torchiere which is used to redirect the heat downwards. There are also propane wall heaters that require a fan to help circulate the warm air. These fans are powered by electricity and so therefore these wall heaters should be near electric sockets.

Popular brands include Coleman which is best known for its outdoor products and Mr. Heater for its different designs of portable heaters. Texsport also sells a few portable heaters as well.

How much they cost

Most of the portable propane heaters from top brands cost less than $100 with their price depending on the portability of the heater. Smaller heaters often cost less because of their limited heating area. You don't have to expect these heaters to cost so much because they have no electrical components anyway.

Where to buy them and how to get a good deal

Since most of these heaters are portable, the best place to buy them would be online because the shipping costs aren't so big compared to electric heaters and are often not as delicate. If you have any favorite stores nearby that would sell these kinds of products, you should check those places out first so you can ask the salespeople for a good deal.

Propane heaters are a fantastic addition to prepare any home for cool temperatures or deep winter seasons. Always have a few portables with you so you can carry them around when you travel.
